Dance Dance Resolution is maybe my favorite comedy episode of the last few years. They burned through like a full season's worth of ideas in 22 minutes.

Yeah it seems a bit overkill like if anything Tahani should have been in the Medium Place? Like sure she had a malicious reason for everything but...she did raise a fuckton of money so I don't get why Mindy would get to be in the Medium Place but not her.
As for Chidi I think it's established that he just negatively impacted everyone in his life because of who he was as a person?
The deciding difference between Tahani and Mindy is that when Mindy had her epiphany right before she died, she was genuinely planning on doing it solely for good, not for any other reasons. Tahani solely did her charity work to try and compete against her sister. They established pretty well in season 1 that if your motives are even the least bit selfish/corrupt, you don't get any points for the action, regardless of how much good it does.
Chidi is the inverse of that, since Chidi always had good intentions, but his lack of action did harm to the people around him, making those intentions worthless without good action to back them up.
The show's interpretation of morality works under the idea that it takes both good intentions and good actions combined to earn yourself a spot in The Good Place. One or the other other doesn't cut it. The reason Mindy got the Medium Place was because, despite being shitty before, her ephiphany caused her to not only change her intentions and want to help people, but she also did the actions needed to plan it, organize it, and used all of her own personal savings to finance it, but she died before the project was actually realized. The reason she got stuck in the Medium Place was because they weren't certain if she should get the points or not, because although she did die before her plan could go into effect, she did have both the good intentions as well as already having started performing the good action as well. ---
