Since the court system just handwave away a woman trying to murder their kid like it was no big deal. The problem with that is, he'd spend life in prison, and the state that said her mom didn't do anything bad will get custody of her. Seriously, anyone who thinks women are oppressed in the First World has never had to deal with child custody battles. I'd gamble and say putting her in whatever system Australia has for kids in that situation is better than leaving her around a mother that literally tried to murder her. Her chances are already pretty grim.
