If you knew you were innocent, but there was no evidence to prove or disprove your guilt because it happened 3-4 decades ago, why would you want an investigation that is just going to be inconclusive? That makes you look guiltier than having no investigation at all. No one can decisively say one way or the other what, if anything, happened.
