Nothing is stopping Alex from using Credit Cards as a payment source on his site. Or him using Credit Cards to buy things. How do you think credit cards work? That they don't require using PayPal? I've never had a PayPal account and I get by fine using my credit card to purchase things online. Your payments are still going through a large payment processor who can dictate what content the website may host. IIRC, Patreon changed its policy on what content is allowed due to pressure from their payment processor.
