Sure. That was a joke.

It's awkward that they bring up his daughter and that he never learns anything about her. Either he should meet his daughter/learn she's dead or he shouldn't have a daughter at all.

I don't know why it matters. How making her dead would 'fix' it. Instead we learn she's not dead, so she's an adult and presumably has a decent life. Or John chooses to believe this I imagine. I've got to assume he's thinking 'well, I sure don't want to pop in on my same-age-as-me-now daughter and freak her the eff out.' THAT would be awkward, for them anyway.

Although I want to say there was either a deleted scene or extra scene put in the novelization (if there was one?) or something I'm vaguely remembering where he does meet his daughter as one of the city's Leary-led mole people.
