Well to be fair, shouldn't we be holding off nominations until after the midterms anyway as the will of the American people is important? Isn't that what Republicans spent over a year arguing when they stole a seat from Obama?

Exactly. The McConnell rule. If GOP loses the Senate, it was the will of the American people that Trump nominate a less hyperpartisan judge who may or may not be a sex offender.
