My theory, and the reason why I felt okay eating them, is the following: Like I said they both looked preppy and well to do, probably white collar jobs. Lots of offices bring food in on Fridays for workers to boost morale. If I had to guess, one of them probably got stuck with the platter of sandwiches that was barely touched, and they didn't object. However, later on, while playing tennis, and right before dinner, the two of them probably had a conversation along the lines of this: "Haha, what are we gonna do with all these sandwiches?" "Idk, I don't really want them." "Well if you're not gonna eat them I guess let's get rid of them?" "Lol you mean right now?" "I mean there's a garbage right there... Yeah just throw them away."
