discontinuity is when for some reason you don't have a smooth line/curve and there's a break. easy way to get one is with a piecewise function, say something like y = { x = 0, 100; x != 0, x^2 }. then there's a "hole" in the parabola at x = 0 and there's a point in the middle of nowhere at (0, 100).

"removeable discontinuity" means there's a way to get rid of the "hole". the limit of the above function taken from both sides of the hole both approach the same value (0). so the limit at that point is 0, even though evaluating the function at that point would give you 100 instead.
