I've finished Nisemonogatari now and... yeah, I definitely didn't like that one as much as Bake or Kizu. I still need to organize my thoughts about it, but there were a whole bunch of things that I really didn't enjoy. There were still good aspects but it felt like the stuff I disliked was by far the focus of the season.

I was actually impressed in Bakemonogatari when Araragi said something to the effect of how guys who actually have sisters don't have sister fetishes. I guess the joke was on me for actually taking that seriously because of course this entire season was devoted to sexualizing his sisters in increasingly uncomfortable ways. Where it really went over the edge was in that awful toothbrush episode. 'This is the story of my immortal little sister... right after a whole episode devoted to me making my other sister orgasm while brushing her teeth'. Yeah, no thanks. Not my thing.

Even beyond that, though, the two monster plots this season just weren't as good as anything in Bakemonogatari. They felt like just a bunch of random stuff that happened, which wasn't a feeling I'd had with the series at all until this point. There was talk earlier in the topic about Nisemonogatari not being as good as the other seasons and I really hope that's the case. I want it to go back to how it was before.

There were some good points, though! A lot of the character interactions were still great (even if the first few episodes felt a lot like they were just reintroducing the characters to make sure I remembered them). Hachikuji teaching Araragi that the word 'courage' can improve any sentence was probably my favorite part of the season. Shinobu becoming a normal person again was fun too even if it kind of undercut the whole final dilemma of Kizumonogatari. They have a neat dynamic by basically trading power back and forth as the situation dictates, and I enjoy how much she likes donuts.

Anyway, the next season is short so I'll probably watch it tomorrow.
