Hitler was legit a really good soldier though. He was awarded two Iron Crosses(one second class, one first class).
No, IIRC, those were fabricated by his PR after-the-fact.
The 'Hitler was actually really smart' thing is an absolute myth. He was abysmal at anything that didn't involve public speaking. He was incredibly dense when it came to war, as well as being too arrogant to listen to the council of his very experienced staff (many of whom were highly dedicated WWI vets).
IIRC he wasn't actually a soldier, he was an order carrier. His task during the war was to ferry orders from the commanders to the different units, which he apparently did well.
Yeah, he was a courier, but I don't actually know if they are part of the military structure or not.
