Do they get a free pass or is it just a "too bad, welcome to Hell"? I grew up going to Catholic Bible study, they told me those souls were in a limbo. They were 'let in' the second Jesus died. Sort of. The way I was taught was that people whom died before the crucifixion were to be covered under the new testament with Jesus where as the Old Testament was meant specifically for those of Jewish descent. So if someone up and croaked before Jesus arrived yet had lived the life of the chosen few they would still be allowed into heaven due to the new pact. I don't think it was ever clarified if they had to go through a 'waiting room' or not until it happened but... It's Heaven.
