Spending thousands of years in limbo seems like hell to me. Maybe it didn't have all the fire and brimstone, but that only seems marginally worse than being stuck in a boring limbo state for thousands of years.

So was heaven just completely empty before Jesus died? If nobody went to heaven before Jesus, then the only people there would be God and the angels. Yet I am sure the Old Testament told of people who died and went to heaven. So that seems like a plothole to me.

What about people who died after Jesus but could never have possibly heard about him? For example, Native Americans could certainly never have heard the story of Jesus until the Europeans came to America over a thousand years later. Were all those Native Americas who lived between 1 AD and the European colonization of America therefore doomed to hell?
