As far as Republicans go, he seemed like a reasonably rational human being, who believed in right and wrong, and was willing to reach across the aisle and occasionally put country before party.

That said, I think he was extremely misguided in his patriotism and his perceived role of the USA in this world, or how the rest of the world looks at the USA and its actions. He seemed blind for everything the USA has done wrong when it comes to military presence and interference. And on lots of policies, I strongly disagreed with him and his proposed solutions.

I believe that, at heart, he was mostly a good honest man. However, I also feel he was severely misguided/wrong on numerous issues.

Also didn't help that whenever somewhere in the world there was trouble, McCain would be on some news channel proposing the USA should show strength and force and bomb those folks.
