Comics can be summed up in one of my favorite quotes from 1984, "The Eleventh Edition is the definitive edition." Too many territorial pissings. Let's take the happy or weird stuff and place it in an alternate universe. Let's say it never happened. Let's have writers go back and forth about who slept with who or who actually died. Let's turn the hero's girlfriend into a raging monster, then casually retcon it two years later as her being mind controlled when she's back in the hands of someone who doesn't hate her very existence. If the movies are a bible, then the comics which inspired them are a collection of stories which may be accepted as canon or dismissed as myth. There's no authority in comics and so they have no merit. They're just stories waiting for a greater purpose which may or may not ever come. ... Copied to Clipboard! |
