If I'm in 3rd place, solidly in 3rd place, and I have essentially no chance to drop out of the playoffs, then yeah, the lack of consequence matters. No reason to care if I climb to second or drop to seventh.

And don't tell me playoff seeding. I've gotten to the playoffs every year and lost in the first week every year (except when I got a bye and lost week 2.)

I'm in 8th place. It's the last week of the regular season. No matter what I can't end up in 6th. I don't care what happens.

In the meantime, my opponent is rejoicing because if he loses to me, he ends up 7th, out of the playoffs. But no need for concern, because I can't possibly make the playoffs, so I'll ignore my lineup.
