14. Tifa Lockheart

First and foremost, I fully admit that Tifa gets like, seven spots higher on my list because I find her hot and have seen some very *cough* enjoyable *coughcough* artwork *coughcoughhackwheeze* of her. She was a bit TOO endowed in the game, but at least Advent Children corrected that and made her SUPER hot. But still, that shit doesn't boost a character I hate, like Yuna, so Tifa's still great in her own right. Again, she fits in the "badass secondary female" role which got Faris, Celes, Freya, Fran and Fang all on this list (only missed Quistis because I dislike FF8 in principle, and Lulu because she's ironically flat in all ways except two.) But rather than wield a sword or spear or bow, I appreciate Tifa for having the Thatchers to fight hand-to-hand. That's awesome.

I also like the fact that, even though Aeris is bizarrely cast as the default love interest, Tifa's still in the running. She's Cloud's childhood friend, and if you glitch the system, you can actually easily boost her up into that default love interest position. But that romantic involvement comes with a cost. She's the only one who knows Cloud's true past. She knows he's not a real SOLDIER, and he just has amnesia (I think he had implanted memories from Zack, right?) Yet still she sticks by him and helps to guide him to becoming the man he wanted to be. Could the plot have been solved by her just telling him stuff right up front? Yeah, but that's what makes her an interesting character. She's flawed and selfish and although I'm sure she thinks she's acting in Cloud's best interest, there's still an element of wanting to keep him close and at her beck and call. I just find her a combination hot and interesting, which is enough for a top fifteen placement.
