You have one alliance that's actually interesting (because they show emotions), but they're been psychologically destroyed (or are so naturally stupid) that they keep getting picked off week after week. Then you have the other alliance that's playing a close-knit game and making few mistakes, but they've never suffered any REAL setbacks, so they become more and more arrogant and obnoxious, while remaining inert and boring in perfect UTRN/MORN harmony.
