4. Celes Chere

Poor Celes. She used to be number one, but then I bumped her for Zidane. And then I bumped HIM for Faris, putting her down to three. And now there's a new third placer, bumping her own AGAIN. But rest assured, I still love Celes and find her to be the most compelling character in FFVI's abundant cast. First off, she fits the same role as so many of the eliminated female characters thus far, that of the tough secondary female. She's a former general for crying out loud, and she stood up to the awful shit being pulled by the Emperor and Kefka. That takes balls. Lady balls. But more than that, she's a sensitive person, adding an extra layer beyond just being a kick ass war mage. She falls for Locke, even though he's busy mourning the loss of his first love, and she willingly puts on the dress to take the place of Maria during the opera scene. Layers. But I think the moment that solidified her as a top tier favorite for me is immediately after we enter the World of Ruin. She's all alone, she's lost everything, and she has a very human reaction...she tries to end it all. That's fucking DARK, and that's the FIRST thing you see when she becomes the focal character at the start of WoR. I just...she's always stood out to me for having those emotional reactions to the rough situation in which she constantly finds herself.
