Wombat, I don't think anyone believes no one negotiates for better pay, but dude said he successfully negotiated higher wages in retail and fast food. Maybe it happened, but I'd be a fool to just believe it.

Yup I absolutely did.

Again I learned quickly how to go above and beyond because that would be the leverage I needed to gain a higher wage.

I started as a 16 year old fryer. In two months I learned how to run both the grill and also bun prep. In the following 2 months I learned to close down the store, run a register, and prep all the salads, soups, condiments, etc; for the next day.

After 4 months I went to the manager and told her that I had learned all these skills and was reliably on time and hadn't called in like every other high school worker had been. I wanted my yearly review and raise now since I had learned the skills that demanded the higher wage. I was currently getting minimum wage and I could get another job that payed the same within the week.

I started there at $5.25 and after 2 years, my senior year of high school, I had negotiated all the way up to $9.80

She gave it to me and I stayed for another 2 years. I had done it once and realized every wage is negotiable and did it again at both Sears and a local Supermarket I worked for in College.
