Basically you'll reach a point where the only cards that matter (99% of the time) are SSRs. The N, R, and SR cards you have now aren't going to be relevant for very long so don't worry about them.

Sell N and R cards and build your team with as many SRs as you have until you start getting SSRs. Don't worry about leveling up or using training items on anything unless you're going to use it immediately because the story is pretty easy if you have a few good cards.

As a general rule of thumb keep any SSRs you get either through summoning or from free gifts or whatever.

Training automatically uses the most optimal items toward the character you're trying to train if you do the auto method. Feel free to use N and R cards to train SR and SSRs if you want. The auto method for characters will automatically fill it with N and R cards so the game recognizes how useless they are too!

One last thing is make sure to lock any cards you're using by viewing the card and tapping the lock in the top right corner. It saves you from accidentally selling or training a good card.
