#61 - Scarlet Starlets Created by: Johnbobb
Badass redhead ladies

Siryn
Batwoman
Hope Summers
Black Widow
Jean Grey
Madelyne Pryor
Velocity

Johnbobb created an "Angels" team and had the clever foresight to name it after me. Brilliantly planned, he attempted to convince the sole arbiter of success on these lists that he had created this team himself. Well, Johnbobb... I see through your tricky ruse. I'm not a man without a little perception. I've been monitoring your nominations, your Gauntlet Crew Ranks lists.... I know your every move. I've sussed out the truth, and I'm here to expose it.

This is just a chunk of your favorite characters.

And what's worse here, what's the real killer, is that half of the team is Jean Grey-alikes, and the other half isn't. It's such a lopsided presentation that it pretty much fucks the team over. And that's too bad, mainly because any time someone sells me Siryn or Batwoman, I'm willing to give them a chance. However, you bet too much of the farm on House Summers, and it's blowing up in your face.

Firstly, the power set of these mutie redheads is way too similar. It's also one of those ill-defined power sets that is too convenient in storytelling. With Hope and Jean, it makes the stakes disappear in most stories. Furthermore, Madelyne Pryor would never ever work with Jean Grey, and vice versa. Even if they did, it's literally just a SummersSlam after that point. The rest of the team will get no time to develop their own characters because the Grey Wave will steal all of the screen time. If you just want Jean and Scott in a book, ask for Jean and Scott in a book. The rest of these characters are going to end up as complete afterthoughts. I think it's important to not underestimate what a mired mishmash of familial drama any Grey/Summers experience is. It completely has driven lots of fans off of titles over the years and rutted the various X-teams in uninteresting fan controversy. Dredging it up with one of the more disliked plot points (Madelyne) is only going to make things worse.

Membership Drive: Let's be honest here. If this was a book about red-headed stepchildren uniting under the banner of Femme Fantastique, we should ditch all three of your Summers' choices. Instead, give me Rachel Grey in one of those slots. Also, throw me Oracle circa 2005. Barbara Gordon is the non-field leader this team desperately needs. No one else here can even work a telephone. I'd throw in Mera for a regal attitude that gives the team some needed internal conflict thanks to arrogance. Maxima would be an alternate for Mera in the event I can't use her. Also, give me Angela. She would be fun as hell once we ditch all of these unnecessary mutants that make the book too much of an X-title without enough X-family members. Angela also gives us the option to go into space should we want a more cosmic fight on our hands. With a much larger variety of characters, at least now we aren't beholden to spend a biweekly adventure delving into the hidden dramas behind why Scott is cheating on one or more of his wives with Emma Frost.
