scarletspeed7 08/09/18 11:26:40 AM #79:	#63 - The Electric Black Guys Created by: Anagram Static Shock Black Lightning Black Vulcan Thunder Fall Storm Falling into the pit of "a bunch of people who all do the same thing", not only are we dealing with a reduplication of efforts here, we've also landed another "two guys who are actually the same person" in Black Vulcan and Black Lightning. Long time comics aficionados will, of course, recall that Vulcan was created for Superfriends due to an editorial edict from DC that Lightning was off-limits. Oftentmes, when we try to make comic teams, it's extremely important to create a common link between the characters. And, if this was Green Lantern Corps title, that similarity in powers wouldn't be an issue. What kills you here is that every power is used in the exact same way. In the Green Lantern titles, the great writers make it clear that every Lantern (important Lanterns, at least) wields the ring in a different way. The powers may be the same, but the breadth in utilization is as spanning as the mind is creative. Electricity only gets you so far. And it's because of that lack of variety that this team is probably going to torpedo itself. What happens when every villain starts hiring Clayface to take them out? While I'm all aboard the idea of having an all-black comics team, this is maybe not the best way to go about it. I would go out of my way to find some great black characters with a variety of abilities and backgrounds and make sure not to include Cyborg in that number. Simple as that. Membership Drive: Let's definitely ground this team in some reality. Black Vulcan is extremely archaic and a complete duplication of Black Lightning. Also, if it's "Black Guys", maybe Anagram wants to fill us in on why Storm is included. Is there something she needs to tell the rest of the class? Replace both of them with Black Adam and New52 Wally West. Both of them are lightning-flavored and yet have an extremely different skillset. A tank and a speedster are totally out-of-left-field inclusions, and yet the two of them probably have more starpower than the rest of the remaining team put together. Plus, you have a little of the shades-of-grey morality in Adam, a character that will immediately try to take over the team for his own country's purposes.
