The first Colonel actor was such a joke that people hated it, so as a joke they decided to change Colonels every few commercials. I was the only one that liked the first guy i should rephrase, its not that the guy was a bad actor its that the portrayal of the colonel as some crazy weird dude rubbed people the wrong way. so they replaced him and said "IM THE REAL COLONEL" and toned down his character...then its just became a running gag to replace them every now and then.
