There's pretty solid evidence that cats have an excessive level of empathy, bordering on being considered an actual empath - if there was a scientific threshold for such a thing.

In the 1970s, cats were placed into an isolation chamber with people who revealed their state of mind before entering. The cats would always approach and comfort those who claimed to be feeling down or sad, and they would almost always avoid people who were feeling angry or upset.

People who reported feeling stressed out would find the cat tended to cuddle on their laps, and people who reported feeling nervous / unsure would find the cat rubbing around their ankles.

People who reported being dog lovers were never seen or heard from again, and the cats clammed up and stuck together on their story of "never saw him, don't know."

The project lost funding after the disappearances, though no arrests were made and all of the cats walked free and are at large today.
