You really not understand why the government collecting private data on you is a more serious issue?
But it isn't.
Not only are private companies unaccountable (unlike government where you have somewhat of a say) but they influence government as well via lobbying
But the government has significantly more power with what they can do with that information than some private entity. And if private entities influences government policy, then thats even more reason to be skeptical about giving more private data to the government, because then corporations can more easily access such information because they will influence the government to make that data more readily accessible.
