And the act of shelling out a huge amount of money for a rock does, at its base level, represent a commitment by the man. It's not "in order to get the sacred vagina", it's a signal that he wants to commit for the rest of his life to her. Yeah you could make the argument that the woman doesn't have to make that same type of purchase to prove her loyalty but ideally she would be doing so in other ways.
