The aesthetic, i.e. dark and gothic, has existed for a while, and it's not like after the first game came out, almost every other game released was incredibly hard. You could argue that Virtua Racing should be on the list. It was the very first 3D racing game, and of course, it was one of the first 3D games in general. I remember all those coloured polygons. I wasn't that into it, because I wasn't a huge racing fan at the time (and still am not), but it was pretty influential. --- It has been 0 days since something interesting happened.
