Actually I'm inclined to agree that it's not homophobic. It was mentioned ITT already, they're in bed together politically. If Putin or Trump were a woman, the comic would be just as relevant and have the same punchline.

But he's not a woman, just like those "what if Obama did this" examples are of things Obama would never actually do. Whataboutism isn't actually a valid point.

It's not whataboutism. I'm saying that the punchline isn't "look they're gay haha", it's "they're in bed together politically". Now of course you can argue that that in itself is a homophobic idiom, and I would disagree.
So I'm not bringing up "if it were a woman" to try and show some double standard, I'm bringing it up because the point made would be the same one.
