Cancer is a direct result of the advancement in medicine. While it is true that cancer is more common now, back in the day it wasnt uncommon for people to live to be 70, a big part of the lowered average is that children were much more likely to die than today.

Once you became an adult, you had a decent chance to make it to a ripe old age.

also, it's an indirect result of medical advancements. not a direct one
