Because the only "important" jobs that exist are the ones we can't find enough people to do. The more people that apply for a job, the lower the wage.

Well yes, because there's value to society and then there's value to employers. They're two entirely different things. But since it's employers that drive the economy, employers determine wages. If it were any other way, there would be a lot of wasted money and businesses would be broke and people would be out of jobs.

I'm not convinced. Nor am I convinced that there isn't a lot of wasted money right now :)
