If someone asked me why I was in or around the apartment building i live in, insisted I was trespassing, and tried to call the cops on me I wouldn't get mad, honestly I would just laugh at them. What's the worst they could do, call the cops on me yeah? It's very easy to show proof of residence, there's always some kind of paperwork you have to have signed to live somewhere legally and you're supposed to keep a copy of it. Even if you don't have that anymore, it's easy enough if you've been there for any length of time to grab a piece of mail with your name on it.

Or hell, even easier, if someone tried accosting me like that, I'd just go and check my mail, since you have to have a key for that, given by the people you're renting from.

The woman was being a racist bitch no doubt, but the dude had many easier options in how to deal with the problem instead of getting defensive and belligerent.

Pro tip: If you find yourself being in any kind of confrontation with the police, don't get defensive, that just makes them suspicious. On the flipside, don't get on the offensive either, since that won't end well for you. Just keep level and cooperate. This works for anyone.
