Yup, not a car guy at all, but when my check engine light came on, I was able to diagnose and replace a faulty oxygen sensor with the help of Youtube, Google and Amazon, something I would never have done pre-internet.

See, most people would have just assumed the problem was beyond them and not even tried. I think people just underestimate their ability to learn new things. I mean it's not that they're stupid, they just don't even try because they think they are.

You just have to allow yourself a period where you feel overwhelmed with the info and be confident that it will eventually click.
