Trump thinks he can get more out of the EU, and his hard stance may piss them off but they're not going to actually stop being our allies. It's a crass, short-to-medium-term tactic, but it seems to be working. Germany increased their NATO contributions, for example. That same attitude doesn't work with someone willing to actually become an enemy, so you have to be more tactful. jfc I didn't say it was nice. I just said it was effective. And objectively it has been. Tariffs aside (which are dumb), what have any of our allies actually done in response to Trump's bluster that has negatively affected us on the global stage?
