You can't make a living if you aren't getting paid enough for the work. Most people aren't making a living off youtube or "entertainment" in general and it's not necessarily that they're worse at it. It's really a matter of luck, just like any popularity contest. Even those lucky enough to make a living from it could possibly only make a temporary living off of it just because an algorithm change could make it non-viable.
