I don't think 45 million Americans is something to laugh off about, that's a problem.
And it always will be a problem. Every society since the dawn of time has had a small percentage of people who were born poor and stay that way. By and far, it's a personal problem. I've been poor, and absolutely hated it so I did this insane thing called "look for a better job". Crazy, I know.
We've been having this stupid debate for years. There's always going to be a small vocal group of idiots who think just because they work the easiest jobs on the planet 40 hours per week they are entitled to a 3 br home, 2 new cars, 4 weeks vacation in Bermuda etc. Keep it up. I'm seeing more and more automation and self serve kiosks, there's your "fight for 15" lmao. If your job can be replaced by a robot or app that will do it better and cheaper, it's only a matter of time. And the louder they bitch and cry and protest, the more appealing those machines become.
That doesn't answer the question, there shouldn't be that high of a number and not especially in the 21st century AND especially in AMERICA.
