I think it's more like "Squall is my favorite guy, he inspired my life in a time when I really needed to relate to quiet guy that no one understood and then he loses to Rikku because her fans just like cute bubbly archetypes". Having that thought process could make me upset, whereas in Save my Pokemon I wouldn't really care. I like Bulbasaur in about the same manner anyone can like a Pokemon.
