If you invest that $1,000 you weren't getting before in stock that can give you 20% per year and do that for the next nine years you'll have $30,118. At 10% per year tracking the S&P 500 (which is much more doable and less risk than aiming for 20% or more with individual stock) you'll have $17,295 which is not shabby. By that point you could make it a habit to get a couple of raises and keep contributing the $1,000 + more each time you get a raise and end up with a nice nest egg. --- Do good. Eat communists. ...
