Yes, I'm kind of stuck between thinking "How does this happen even today?" and not being shocked at all. In my area, it is not unheard of to get flagged as a suspicious person if you are a visible person of color passing through a "White space." When I say "White space," I really mean a wealthy area that could also be suspicious of a White man who is tan from working out in the sun.
