I don't think you can ever say about any character that is a rabbit there there was no intended suggestion.

Considering that "fluffy tail" is just about the only characteristic more associated with rabbits than "reproduces quickly, and a lot."

It's kind of like making a character that's a snake and saying you didn't mean to imply shadiness. If you really didn't, you'd have picked another animal.
