No, they're a harder team, but the era is so much softer and easier than the 80's and 90's. You said it yourself, the east is a joke and it's been that way for what seems like a decade. Lebron's been tearing them up and racking up the numbers all this time.
The east is a joke, and the era is softer, but if you want to say that lebron couldnt handle the harder era, youre wrong. I honestly feel like lebron would benefit from being in the more physical era. If he could play defense the way he does while also being able to fuck people up, it would only improve his game.
The east has been garbage save from three or four teams lebrons entire career, and that is why finals records are bullshit, but that doesnt change who he is as a player.
I'm not saying he couldn't handle it. I'm saying this era is so soft and he's feasting on it. His offensive game definitely would've taken a step back in the 90's simply because the league then was all about defense, milking the clock, and grinding it out. ---
