TC, if you you leave an opening of 1.5 car lengths or more, that is a blatant opening for me to merge into.

"Here's the deal. Figure one car length for every ten miles an hour," Barndt said. "So if you're doing 55 miles an hour you should have six car lengths between you so that if something happens to the car in front of you, you have time to stop or react."

I was going roughly 50 when this situation prompted, so one would think five car lengths per the quote above. You wanna make a lane change into a two car-length spot while going 50? Good luck.

Secondly, You trying to force a lane change into a small spot forces me to slow down to again establish safe following distance. If I let you change in front of me without slowing down myself, I go from your alleged two car lengths down to one car length. Your insistence on changing lanes so dangerously forces me to slow down. Which causes the person behind me to slow down. Ad nauseam.

Keep in mind that the frame of the car is there to protect you in case of a collision so you should not be afraid to drive aggressively.

I'm legitimately wondering if you're trolling here.

You're basically suggesting it's okay to be aggressive because cars these days are very safe in collisions. You're not even considering the fact that I'll now have to deal with paperwork, insurance, potentially losing cash on the crash (even if it's not my fault), time to get the car fixed, possible lasting damage to the structure of the car, and potentially insurance rates going up (again, even if it wasn't my fault).

I just have the mindset that I will drive aggressively and let others adapt to my approach. I've only been "at fault" in one of my wrecks, and that was because the other driver took too long to merge onto a highway. I don't really think I should be blamed there.
