TopicI just had a really dark thought regarding the new Dune.

the first book is amazing, I've read it at least 3 times. what I love about it is the real sense of moving to another (barely) habitable planet, and really living there learning to cope with its fundamentally different ecology (in this case, absurdly different, moving from an ocean planet to a desert planet.) even a whole profession "planetologist" for someone who specializes in studying the ecology of a particular planet.

I guess saying it, that's actually not that unique sounding, maybe even cliche, (fish out of water?), but the way its done seems pretty unique to me. it feels very believable.

the mystical stuff is all kind of weird and not necessarily that amazing, but the sci-fi parts sure are.

there's stuff I like about the second book, which sort of ties up a lot of the loose ends of the first book, though it sure has a different feel to it.

the third book I found boring and it didn't really do anything interesting at all. kept waiting for it to intrigue me, but it was just boring. when it finally should have gotten interesting, it just got weird instead.
