well, I just found out that I should've been making a bit more money at my previous school district.I feel zero guilt about keeping the pc now,lol

Don't try to justify it, unless maybe if they had done some illegal shit because you're doing some illegal shit.

nah, I'm just half way joking. I'm going to return the laptop when I go back to that town, which will be in about a week and a half

Dude no

You know damn well that laptop is going unused and/or sold for cash into some grunt's personal bank account.

It's been a year. You walk into the district or wherever. "Hey guy, here's a laptop from a while ago." "Oh sure, I'll get it right to IT or whomever right away!"

Of course not. They're taking that laptop for themselves.

At this point, you're inconveniencing yourself for an outcome that will negatively affect you. If they want the laptop back, they'll call you. Don't go out of your way just to discard a perfectly usable laptop that nobody is looking for.

It's why I offered to take it off his hands.

even if it's tracked on the bios level, it's easy enough to flash a vanilla bios, and if that doesn't work for whatever reason, just replace the entire bios chip.

that's a little more involved

Sending it to someone else would be even sillier though. IMO he has two options for two situations:

He hangs onto the laptop:

1.) District finally calls back and would like it returned. Fortunately he has it so he sends it back no problem.
2.) District never calls back. Boom, free laptop.

or

He sells/gives it to helly / destroys it

1.) District finally calls back and would like it returned. TC doesn't have it and gets slapped with a $500 bill.
2.) Distract never calls back. No harm done.

If you actively think going out of your way to return it is the smart thing to do, then I guess go for it. But at this point, just keep it, use it as a side-laptop (for browsing and maybe netflix since I assume it doesn't have the ability to process much more than that) and just keep it light. If they ask for it back, they'll wipe it anyways.

As it stands right now, there is no risk for you since you still have the computer, so going out of your way to bring it to someone's attention is silly. Especially when your profit is a free laptop.
