Conservatives may be more of a barrier, but suggesting that they are the only barrier is a very poor, and inaccurate reading of the current situation in America.
A Significant amount of American "liberals" are not particularly liberal at all.
He said they're the only barrier from "quicker progress", not progress in general. And while that still may not be 100% accurate, it's close enough that his point should be addressed rather than nitpicked and then brushed aside. ---
