I actually think the Zero games have the best plot of any MM subseries. I don't really understand Zero feeling nerfed. He's arguably more powerful than he was in the X series. Funny enough I think I read something in one of the official art books that Zero's redesign was closer to how Inafune originally imagined him, but due to snes limitations they had to go with the bulkier original design. I believe that was from Inafune's note in the X Complete Works book, but I'd have to recheck.
