She's so much more of a person in the novel, where we follow her emotional development at realizing her first crush ever cheated on her and then dumped her after a week. There's this moment when Steven just lays it out, and he's like 'Scott is my friend, but he's also an asshole, and he's not worth the baggage. Get over him.' And then it really sinks in for her.
