I don't really agree with discussing stuff like this in a topic made by someone who hasn't even started the game yet, but I guess I'll put my two cents in spoiler bars.

The events in 5 were thematically amazing and in a way really ballsy, but that doesn't make them fun. All the boring/underwhelming events are great for driving home the feelings and frustrations of these characters, but in doing so constantly throughout the game you deprive them of any opportunity for real cohesion like the P4 crew had. You basically just end up with a troupe of angry teenagers who don't feel like they like each other all that much. (And I don't think you can argue that's the point - it absolutely was in P3, which was going for a "coworker" feel, but these characters are supposed to actually be friends.)

The game gets some strength from that but at the cost of its characters largely lacking moments to interact and show off the best parts of themselves. Like, when they announced P5D, I thought "oh neat, maybe these characters will finally get a chance to do something."
