Unless you're saying you're perfect and you've never for a slight second thought about doing something you knew you weren't supposed to do, even if you went back on that decision a moment later. There's 'being human and makes mistakes' and 'is blatantly stupid'. Luke's actions fall squarely in the latter, not the former. Especially considering he's come across an exactly similar case in his youth and he just went and made a life-and-death decision based on that.
