He sensed Kylo's heart had already been turned by Snoke, and he wanted to try to prevent the Vader-esque age of evil. Obi-Wan couldn't turn Anakin from the dark, and look what happened. Luke had a long monologue about how he sensed the darkness growing and couldn't do anything to stop it.
