To go back to the "why you lost" thing about Hilary Clinton...

Moore lost because the Democratic turnout against him was extremely high

This is why you lost

No, seriously, the Republicans ran the most obviously corrupt, incompetent and sleazy candidate imaginable and no one could be bothered to actually vote against him. In the US there is no bigger cause for right wingers winning than left wingers not voting. For whatever reason (it's not just true in America) left wing voters are strangely reluctant to vote for someone they aren't super fond of, even if that person is clearly a million times better than the alternative according to their world view.

And I think this does fit to an extent with what redsox is saying; while his example is shaky without a lot more detail, the whole "liberal" (for lack of a better term, just stick with me on it) mindset genuinely has developed into something that is much more aggressively critical of people than what non liberal people are like. While that does have its benefits (there's a lot of dumb shit in society that does deserve the call outs), it hurts liberals on election day a lot when their voters are so easily turned away by a candidate's flaws that they'd rather not vote that person than vote them for the sake of making sure someone like Donald Trump doesn't win.
